Friends of Noosa Report - 2 Feb 2012 PDF Print E-mail

The Queensland State elections have at long last been set for the 24th of March with Council elections to follow on the 28th of April.  This is good news for the Noosa community as we will know the outcome of the State elections before going to the polls for council elections.  With the LNP’s commitment to facilitate the restoration of Noosa’s council within 100 days of gaining government, some initial steps will have been taken by the LNP as part of the process necessary to de-amalgamate from the SCRC. However, things will not have progressed to the point where we will be voting for a Noosa council at this election.  The best guess is we will be voting for candidates in Divisions 11 and 12 as part of the existing Regional Council then once the boundaries commission has completed its tasks and the costings for de-amalgamation are finalized our next vote will be in a referendum to confirm the Noosa community supports de-amalgamation.

Having now had time to fully absorb the wonderful news from John-Paul Langbroek on the LNP’s commitment to immediately put in motion the re-drawing of boundaries so as to create a ‘Greater Noosa Shire’ when elected to government, we realise there has to be a good deal of thought put into what our new council should look like.

Fortunately, there are other community groups thinking along similar lines with some amongst them coming from a background of local government with strong ideas on how a new council could be structured so as to give the community more ‘bang for their buck’ while at the same time improving services by using 21st Century methods.

Friends of Noosa Report - 3 Jan 2012 PDF Print E-mail

For Noosa, 2012 is the ‘dawning of a new beginning’ as it will enable us---subject to the election of an LNP government---to create a unique 21st Century local government.  One that literally fulfils Abraham Lincoln’s prophecy of “A Government of The People, By The People, For The People.”
As we observe the ongoing violent revolutionary activity in the Middle-East, driven by ordinary citizens demanding representative government,  despatching corrupt totalitarian governments and their murderous dictators to the rubbish bin of history, we in Noosa have quietly engineered our own bloodless revolution.  Before long we will be issuing our ‘Declaration of Independence’ from the virtual dictatorship of the Sunshine Coast Regional Council who tell us what we can and can’t do and is busily planning our future.  Faceless men and women unelected by Noosa residents.

Friends of Noosa Report - 30 Nov 2011 PDF Print E-mail

With the festive season nearly upon us, this year we have further reasons to rejoice in the knowledge a state election will be held in few months time.  Queenslanders will then have the opportunity to wave goodbye to an arrogant, autocratic government that forced Noosa and other councils to merge in defiance of community wishes.

The latest Galaxy Poll indicates voter support for the government continues to linger around the 28% mark suggesting Labor will struggle to hold as little as 12 seats in a new Parliament. Not surprisingly Bligh’s top bureaucrats have clearly ‘sniffed the wind’ and are heading for the nearest exit with 6 of her department heads gone and many more to follow.
