Noosa Leisure Centre 3:00pm Thursday 12th February
In June 2008 the Qld Government declared Noosa an Iconic Place in recognition of the shared goals of the Council and community to attain environmental excellence, quality lifestyle and economic well-being. The declaration aims to maintain the unique character of Noosa and give the community confidence that population growth will not adversely impact on the character, lifestyle and environment. Â
Post-amalgamation, the Iconic Panel has a crucial role in protecting Noosa. Professor Peter Bycroft will put the Panel in the context of his long association with fostering sustainability in Noosa.
Noosa Residents and Ratepayers Association (NRRA) is keen to play an active role in forging advances in the participation of the Noosa community in the ongoing planning for the locality. The NRRA is therefore extending a special invitation to interested residents, ratepayers and representatives of other community groups to a presentation by Prof Peter Bycroft. The presentation will be followed by a discussion on how to make the most out of Noosa’s Iconic status. Â
Prof. Peter Bycroft is a former Noosa Councillor, environmental psychologist and Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Arts and Social Science at the University of the Sunshine Coast. Peter will present his personal views on the topic “Ironic or iconic?: an anecdotal history of the development of the Noosa Brand and its sustainability into the futureâ€
In recent months many people have expressed interest in understanding more about how the Iconic Panel will influence the planning decisions of the Noosa Plan area. Peter’s personal recollections from his family’s long connection with Noosa combined with his local government and strategic planning experience will be intertwined with an illustrated factual history to provide the background to the development of Noosa’s iconic attributes. Peter will then promote discussion about the future for Noosa by outlining his personal point of view about the role of the Iconic Panel and other Noosa-based organisations in the preservation of these attributes.
I look forward to your contribution at the event.
Yours Faithfully,
Brian Stockwell President |
