All of you who value the beautiful place that is Noosa and so oppose the forced amalgamation with Maroochydore and Caloundra. Noosa is not better than those places, just different. The work of Councils and various community organizations – but especially the strength of the community – have made Noosa the place it is today.
The Friends of Noosa is a non-partisan group dedicated to preventing the formal amalgamation going ahead on 15 March 2008 at the next council elections.
We welcome support from Noosa residents and non-residents alike, just as we welcome support from the hinterland as well as the coastal parts of the Noosa Shire. We are not an elitist group – we want support from all parts of the community.
Nor are we trying to mount a takeover bid for action against amalgamation. We are happy to work with other organizations but if some prefer to do their own thing that’s fine by us – provided that they share our objective of stopping amalgamation.
The working group for Friends of Noosa had to be quickly established following Beattie’s legislation. Since then the rules of the game have changed daily, culminating with the PM’s announcement of legislation to permit plebiscites and our very productive meeting with Council on 17 August.
